Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration Grant
Project PREPARE (Providing Real-world Experiences for Professionals to Advance Rural Education) is a federally-funded grant designed to:
Strategically recruit Ed.S. and Ph.D. students to Oklahoma mental health training programs via social media campaign and undergraduate program visits
Provide real-world experiences to students via a structured practicum sequence, complementary specialized didactic training, and service-learning/research projects
Advance rural education via service internships in high-need locations, allowing interns to meet degree and licensure/credentialing requirements and retain these individuals for professional practice
Native American Children in School Program Grant
Project PISTONS (Providing Instructional Support To Osage Nation Schools) is a federally-funded grant designed to provide PISTONS proposes a variety of activities to support the teaching, learning, and studying of Native American languages, while also increasing the English language proficiency of the children served. Goals of the grant are:
To increase Native American children’s reading academic success and performance
To encourage and support Native American language survival
To increase student Native language fluency
To provide professional development and instructional support to teachers for literacy, remote learning, and technology integration
Native Youth Community Program
Project FACTORS (Fusing Academics & Culture Together for Osage Rural Schools) is a federally-funded grant designed to ensure that local Indian students are prepared for college and careers. Goals of the grant are:
Increase literacy skills by providing school readiness interventions to a targeted cohort of Indian students.
Increase the professional knowledge of teachers in evidence based instructional strategies and culturally responsive practices.
Increase college and career readiness for Indian Students interested in educational career paths through Teach Oklahoma Career Exploration Program.
Native American Children in School Program Grant
Project KANZA (a name given to the Kaw people by French traders) is a federally-funded grant designed to support the teaching, learning, and studying of Native American languages, while also increasing the English language proficiency of the children served under such a project. Goals of the grant are:
To increase EL Native American children’s academic success and performance.
To encourage and support Native American language survival.
To adopt and support a model of remote learning.
Fostering Diverse Schools Demonstration Grant
OCIC's Project TREC (Transforming Rural Educational Communities) is a federally funded grant designed to develop a comprehensive plan to improve socio-economic diversity in Osage County. Includes professional development, instructional coaching, mental health, development of a portrait of a graduate with a focus in increasing post secondary options. The goals of the grant are:
85% of teaching staff in the participating LEAs will participate in professional development addressing culturally responsive teaching and engagement strategies
Improve student wellbeing and school climate in one or more domains as measured by the ED School Climate Survey
Improve readiness for Kindergarten as measured by a decrease of 5% of students falling within the extremely delayed range on the DIAL-4
Improve post secondary opportunities for Osage County Students as measured by an increase in the % of students planning to participate in post secondary programs on the Oklahoma Prevention Needs Assessment (OPNA).
Bureau of Justice Assistance's STOP School Violence Program
OCIC's STOP School Violence is a federally funded grant program designed to reduce school and community violence by increasing the knowledge of trauma informed practices in teachers and staff; improving school climate; and educating students in life skills. The goals of the grant are:
Decrease office discipline referrals for physical and verbal aggression across the consortium of LEAs by 10% each project year.
LEAs will show improvement in one or more domains as measured by benchmark levels on the ED School Climate Survey in Years 2 and 3 of the project (baseline Year 1).
By the end of the project, 90% of staff across the consortium will increase their knowledge of trauma informed classroom strategies by 40% as measured by pre/post assessments.
Project PREVENT Grant Program
OCIC's Project Prevent is a federally-funded grant designed to expand the capacity of our member school districts to implement community and school-based strategies to help prevent community violence and mitigate the impacts of exposure to community violence. Goals of this grant are:
decrease office discipline referrals and physical aggression
increase student and family engagement
increase staff knowledge and expertise through training and professional development in trauma informed practices
increase access to mental health services for students through community partnerships and increased school based mental health providers
State of Oklahoma Counselor Corps Program
OCIC's Counselor Corps grant is a state funded program that provides approximately 50% of the funds needed from the state ESSER set aside for districts to hire school counselors and school-based mental health professionals.
State of Oklahoma Department of Mental Health Services
OCIC's School Based Prevention program is a state funded grant through the Department of Mental Health Services providing support in the development of a multi-tiered system of support to provide direct school based prevention services. The goals of this project are:
Develop a districtwide, comprehensive MTSS plan with the ODMHSAS.
Train school staff and educators how to recognize the risk factors and warning signs of developing MEB health problems and how to respond to MEB health crises.
Offer learning-focused opportunities for families on student MEB health.
Decrease stigmatizing attitudes and behaviors related to MEB health.
Implement evidence-informed primary prevention strategies with students, with substance use risk factor outcomes.
Native Youth Community Program
OCIC's Project NAYP (Native American Youth Program) Project NAYP is designed to support teachers, principals, and other school personnel at Frontier School to provide a culturally appropriate and effective instruction to students, and to provide Indian students with a culturally responsive school environment that allows them to gain knowledge and understanding of their Native community, language, tribal histories, traditions, and cultures.
Project NAYP will focus on:
Early Childhood in Elementary Schools, PK-2nd grade Indian students, to support school readiness;
instructional coaching, and professional growth of teachers to gain knowledge for culturally responsive curriculum;
support activities that provide academic supports and engage students to improve attendance in a historically culturally and native language school environment, and
to prepare a selected group of high school Indian students through a career exploration program that will provide a path to post-secondary education with the eventual goal of becoming teachers.
